Apparently PEI has the highest density of lighthouses of any province or state in North America.
We headed to Malpeque for lunch on Sunday — Malpeque oysters being local there and all. Afterwards we drove around a bit of the countryside and discovered a very cool beach (not Cavendish) that had a lighthouse. This was built in 1876, so has seen some history. Hopefully we’ll get to check out a few more lighthouses before the summer is over – maybe some with better lighting!
The beach here itself is of interest as well. Probably mostly a bit of local wisdom, many folks on the beach had arrived by boat. There was a sharp drop-off, so boats were tied up on the shore, not far from where their owners lounged and picnicked in the sun. Those who had arrived by car had travelled down a dirt road, through farmland — it was not marked.
