Original name for a beach on an ocean, huh? Folks in the San Francisco area generally seem more imaginative than that, but regardless of the name, it’s a gorgeous, white sand beach that is particularly amazing at sunset or sunrise. I find the ocean good for the soul — at least it’s good for mine. It doesn’t matter how bad a day one might be having, sitting and looking into infinity has a helpful way of putting things into perspective. Think of the grains of sand: compared to the universe, we are nothing more than one speck on a beach…which make our problems even smaller.
Turn right from the view above, which is looking straight out into the Pacific, you’ll see the Marin headlands, which help define the mouth to the San Francisco harbour. Go around the corner that you can’t see here (right foreground) and you’ll spy the familiar Golden Gate Bridge. As for the surfer, it would be a rare day to not see surfers in the water, if only just bobbing around in their wetsuits, holding onto their boards, waiting for just the right wave.
