More rain

Took this from inside the car – it was raining good and proper at the time. This is the Tamarack woods along Opeongo Rd in Algonquin Park. As fall progresses, the Tamarack trees (those out front) will turn yellow, before dropping their needles.  They are a deciduous coniferous tree, meaning they refuse to commit: while they are a fir tree that produces cones, their needles turn colour and drop in the fall.

Cool trivia: Tamarack is an Algonquin word meaning “wood used for snowshoes”. Those would be mighty useful around here in winter. Unlike Toronto, this area is definitely very familiar with large accumulations of snow in the winter.

The drive was very pretty, even if wet. This is along the road before hitting the open area above.
