Rouge Park

I made it to a nearby park earlier than usual.  It was a sunny morning, clouds were supposed to move it late and I’ve already shot there many times under diffuse, cloudy weather; I wanted to start my day to the sound of birds rather than drilling and banging concrete, which has been typical these past months.  I still need to try for sunrise, as the colour of the trees outside our windows early this morning indicates that it might just be spectacular, but the morning light was still lovely.

It was a treat to have the Red-winged Blackbirds front lit instead of backlit for a change. There is a pair of Buffleheads around one end of the pond, some Canada Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Cormorants, Bank Swallows in this area, and a few weeks ago, I saw a Great Blue Heron, but other than these, migration seems slow this year. Other types of ducks that had been hanging out when things were still frozen seem to have wandered off.
