Lots of boating traffic. Looking towards George’s Island, with MacNab’s Island off in the distance behind it. It was a great disappointment to find that the water taxi service to MacNab’s is no longer available. I was so wanting to do a QTVR from Hangman’s Beach.
Hangman’s Beach was named during the age of the British navy pressing folks into service. When ships sailed into the harbour, they couldn’t fail but pass the lighthouse and the beach, where bodies of sailors who had tried to escape service swung on gallows, welcoming (and warning) those who sailed into the harbour.
Now here’s some trivia: Abraham Gesner invented kerosene and used the lighthouse on Hangman’s Beach as a test bed for measuring its efficiency against that of whale oil. The measurements used helped establish the fuel for standard use. Or so wikipedia says.
