Ungainly grace

Herons land feet forward, which isn’t the most graceful position to see them in.  It can look quite awkward, in fact, especially if you’ve seen them land after watching their flight over the water, wingtips almost touching the water.  But once their feet hit the water, they settle in with much more dignity.
